360 VIRTUAL REALITY FILMS

This year I wrote, directed, shot and animated, NAIROBI BERRIES, (2017) which is Kenya’s first 360 Virtual Reality film incorporating animation and live-action. Nairobi Berries was created with a NEW DIMENSIONS grant from ELECTRIC SOUTH (South Africa). The trailer is above. I am super grateful to have received the very first IMMERSIVE ENCOUNTERS GRAND PRIX  for my first foray into virtual reality film making.
Commercially, NG'ENDO STUDIOS created several animations for a 360 Virtual Reality series by HUFFINGTON POST entitled OUT OF SIGHT (2017). This series brings to light neglected diseases, namely, Lymphatic Filariasis, River Blindness and Sleeping Sickness, which millions of Africans still remain at risk of contracting. The films were directed by Ben Moran of BLIND RIVER FILMS, and are available in entirety  above.

DOCUMENTARY ANIMATION

I am most well known for YELLOW FEVER (2012), my documentary-animation exploring Western influences on African women's ideals of beauty.

Since then, I have worked on other reality-based projects including THIS MIGRANT BUSINESS (2015) commissioned by the DANISH REFUGEE COUNCIL. The film interrogates the commodification of migrants and refugees by human traffickers, and actively places the audience in the position of the smugglers.

In the NET-MED Youth Films (2017), I created henna pattern-based animations for the UNESCO series promoting peace projects in Mediterranean countries. My episode focused on a volunteer named Ahmad, who talks about living in war-torn Libya where "youth hardly have any opportunities aside from joining the armed conflict or migrating," and the projects he has created to offer opportunities and information to these youth.

I directed and animated THE CONDUCTOR as part of PLAN INTERNATIONAL's #GirlsTakeOver campaign for the 2016 International Day of the Girl. The girls’ takeover of governments, schools and businesses was organised worldwide to show what girls can achieve today and in the future, and this series of films supported the run up to the events. This film was made in collaborations with WIRED VIDEO.

All the these films are available to watch above.

MTINDO (2016) is a  short film I was commissioned to create for FASHION AFRICA 254’s launch of their publication MTINDO: Style Movers Rebranding Africa by Daniele Tamagni (Photographer), Waridi Schrobsdorff (Preface). I also wrote and narrated the poem in the film.

I have included a REEL of my projects to show the diversity of my work, as well as a series of adverts I created for FANTA while working at SCANAD Kenya. All these are available to view above.
